Postponed Criticality

My Logitech V400 mouse declared that it's single AA battery has gone critical on Friday. It's been almost a week, and the battery is still sufficiently alive to power it. Now, while I do appreciate the early warning (which allowed me to comfortably acquire a replacement), I wonder if 'critical, replace immediately' was the proper message to send. After all, had I listened, I would've thrown away a battery that still has a week (or more?) worth of juice left in it.

Distractions, Distractions...

I think my head is much lighter now that I have less hair... But that wasn't what I intended to write. I forgot what that was even before Firefox crashed...

Oh, I know. Considering the search results that get people to these pages, I think I should write about music more than just these footnotes I'm doing. Music, and plants. That's what people seem to be interested in.

27.6.06

Self

I realised two things about myself today... First, I like testing things. More than I like using them. And second, butchery of language annoys me immensely. Strangely, it doesn't matter which language.

26.6.06

Summer

Yes. It's hot. Stop whining. Turn off your air-conditioners, because they're a part of the problem, not the solution.

I can't wait for someone to start blaming this or any of the former governments for it.

Today

When asked about the appropriateness of the [beep] [beep] and [beep], the wise man said: [beep] [beep] [beep] [beep], for you [beep] [beep] [beep] not. Thus we were told, and thus we put our ideas into action.

Contemplating Tea

The only thing I can do, really. I'm out of black teas, and am not in a mood for green.

Religious Tolerance

What for the carrot's sake is religious tolerance anyway? If your god is the only true god, then that other guy's is a false one, and there can be no discussion about that. Unless you're both wrong.

Disturbingly Friday

When, after two and a half out of five days at work, a Friday feels like a Friday, something is seriously wrong. I think I'm shutting down. Or at least, shutting off the less enjoyable parts of my life.

What a great time to run out of the tasty Prozac...

A Taste of Things to Come

From this day forth, I shall be known as the Cabinet-assembler! At least, until the desk arrives - I shall become the Desk-assembler then.

21.6.06

Solstice

Furniture, furniture... How I wish I could buy you online!

Anyway. Today's the solstice. My head has stopped hurting, and I seem to be over the today's heat stroke. I'm not really in a mood, but when the astronomical events and national holidays are obliging enough to match, one should not waste the opportunity. I have my new furniture (purchased, but as yet undelivered) to celebrate, too!

20.6.06

Bioethics

Again, serves me right for listening to a 'real' radio...

I think I should write a book on the in-the-title-mentioned subject. I mean, when I listen to the charlatans who have assembled at a symposium which is taking place in a town on Croatian coast (the name isn't really important) yammer about their completely irrelevant opinions on things ranging from GMOs to animal rights to human cloning to the purpose of science, I can't help but think, how hard can it be? I have opinions. They are as irrelevant as theirs, though a with more base in reality (even if I say so myself). I have a word processor, and can type. I have everything I need, don't I?

Except that I can't really be bothered. I couldn't even keep the Reality Check Committee meeting regularly.

18.6.06

And a Title.

It's hot. It's yawny. It's a Sunday afternoon. The Schlock Mercenary comic doesn't seem to be exciting enough to to keep me fully awake, and I'm too lazy (have I mentioned it's hot?) to try something more active. Igor wants to be scratched and won't take no for an answer. I'm not even in a mood for chocolate.

On the positive side, I don't have to go to work tomorrow.

A Forgotten Title

There is something about listening to too loud music in the late hour of the night... When the wine bottle decides it's better off empty... And the world spins behind the closed eyelids...

And the entire world seems to be yours.

A nail for the maker on a trail of greed and fate...
(I have no idea what this is supposed to mean, but it sounds groovy. (:)

Friday Is as Monday Does

I wonder... Is it the political correctness that's making the US armed forces in Iraq call the locals fighting them 'insurgents' instead of 'bandits', which was the word commonly used by the Germans in WW2 to describe the local irregulars who fought them? And does that make the said Americans and better than the said Germans?

It's obviously a Friday after a national holiday...

To Sigh For

When asked about the annoyance of small chairs, a wise man said: heed not the words of your furniture, for they last till the torches burn out. Thus we were told, and thus we did, and the colour of our shade always stayed green.

14.6.06

N**** F*** S***

This is turning out to be a bad day. A bad, bad day.
Well, I got what I voted for.

Not Many Meetings. One.

Blogging with Opera Mini doesn't work. Anyway...

I was so tempted to do a Vibi, again. I'd like to start killing some colleagues, too. Alas, the short-term satisfaction that would bring isn't really worth it.

13.6.06

Necessary Evil

It seems I'm needed back at work a bit earlier. Which I suppose would be flattering if I didn't know why.

At least it's the day before a national holiday tomorrow...

12.6.06

Almost Over

Where have I been? Nowhere.
What have I done? Nothing.

11.6.06

As Is

I don't like Iron Maiden. And that's it.

10.6.06

The Word for World Is...

When does a dream stop being a dream, and become a story? How much control can there be? How long may it last?

Whatever it was that I had, it was good.

9.6.06

Interior Decoration

The emptiness is frightening. I need furniture.

8.6.06

Blurred Boundaries

I dream. I am awake. And I can't tell the difference.

When the Nights Are Short

I think I don't have enough time. Nor resources.

6.6.06

Weee!

Amazing how quickly has the idea of listening to a radio that sounds more or less like my music collection (the one I'd like to have, anyway) grown on me.

And how much a break from the office routine helps. Despite of some people's best efforts...

5.6.06

The Long-Expected Monday

The long-awaited, and definitely needed, break has arrived. Or, will be arriving soon. Thank carrot. I can't wait to actually get home.

Using an external player (Winamp, in my case) has solved my Last.fm radio multi-tasking problems. The bandwidth usage is acceptable, too (~20 kB/s). Thus far, I'm very satisfied.

Also in the news... Started the sixth Kate Elliot's Crown of Stars book today. Between it and George R.R. Martin's Feast for Crows, I decided on the more simple one. The Feast will require me to re-read the first three books, and I don't feel up to it at the moment.

2.6.06

Radio, What's New

I've been iffy about the internet radios thingie. Maybe it was the leftover of the dial-up mentality. Maybe I was concerned about the bandwidth hogging. Maybe it was the easier accessibility of my own modest music collection. Maybe it was something else.

Anyway.

Then I read the ExtremeTech's Free Music Recommendation Services article, and my interest got piqued. So I registered, downloaded, overcame my inhibitions about letting somebody else know what I have on my computer (and realised I need not allow it, anyway), and now I'm seeing what it's all about.

The only objection I have so far is that it can't play while something else is using the sound card...

1.6.06

Opener

Let's say I was... Had some time. Let's say I was browsing a site I have bookmarked. Let's say that the site is full of crap, but that in that quality, it perfectly matches me. Let's say that I got myself thinking...

The Eye opened. Still baby-blue, its sight not as sharp as it could be, but on schedule, and quite unexpected.
