These Days in Search Engines

I still seem to be a popular result of searches for Turkish prostitutes. One of the more interesting results of the second Project Marina.

Even though you might feel inclined to look for the meaning of the Demons & Wizards' song Fiddler on the Green here, you will not find it. I don't think you'll find it anywhere, but does it matter? It's a darn great song, meaning or no meaning.

Thanks to a slight misspelling, I'm still the top result of MSN searches for Hitler qoutes. Correct spelling will find produce better results. Shall I go and correct my post? No. Too lazy.

And for the end, a FAQ which finds a Reality Check Committee's memo.

Freaky Days of Our Lives

Yesterday felt like Friday. Today feels like Friday. And the real Friday is actually tomorrow. I am soooooooo tired...

Interior Design

One room. Silly kitchen. Pipes in wrong places. Many plans, no money. What to do, what to do?

29.3.05

Sweet

Once, this was a candy machine. Now it's a monument to a culture.

Not Even a Cold

I didn't sleep well. That sucks.

Eyes Rolling Enough to Warm Myself Up

Oh, my carrot. Thanks to our dearest Blogger bar, somebody came from here. Look, it's an entire family of people with several chins! The kids don't have it, you say? Wanna bet they'll get at least one additional one in a few years? The expression 'fat and happy' has just acquired a new meaning for me...

I should've let it be. But no. Curiosity killed the cat, they say. I found this. Which left me entirely jaw-hanging-open speechless.

Well...

I'm a coward. A weakling. And not nearly drunk enough.

I think I'll really need more help than this. And I think I'll have a cold when I get up in the afternoon.

Take Two: Hoping for More Cooperative Weather

Am I really?

Nothing.

I have nothing to say. There.
So go away. I don't like you.

26.3.05

Take One: General Rehearsal

The weather is much more pleasant now than it was in November. I wonder if it'll be cold enough, and hope that the distractions won't be too, well, distracting.

Days of Our Lives, Continued

No! Today is NOT Friday!

23.3.05

Urges, Desires, Cravings.

I feel an urge to do some plant-potting. And look at the time...

Days of Our Lives

Today is Monday. Which means this weekend will start on Thursday, and have two Saturdays.

I so love being lost in time... :)

22.3.05

EE-yoo!

Well, this government and its incompetence, stupidity, and other things I shall not name at this point is actually losing me money.

21.3.05

Bureaucracy Universal

My visa application requires me to submit more paper than I did for my job application. All in the interest of 'proving that I safisfy the immigration requirements', meaning, that I won't sleep on a train station (or park) bench, don't intend to stay forever and am not broke. All this 'evidence' they ask for doesn't really prove anything. In the end, all they have is my word, so they really could've saved me the trouble of having to collect all the paperwork.

20.3.05

Spring Equinox

I'll just pretend I didn't forget about it, OK? I'll just call the planting of some new Callisia cuttings a proper celebration, and let free the virgin I've been keeping in the basement for the occasion.

And I'll add the Summer Solstice to my calendar, so I don't forget it.

19.3.05

Precious Weekends

There are very, very few things I hate more than getting up on a Saturday morning.

18.3.05

Public Transportation

I actually and seriously considered using a train to get to a place some 40 miles away tomorrow. I have to be there some time before 1100, because a friend is presenting his book at that time. But...

Since it's a Saturday, I have two choices: to be too early, or too late. Since it's a Saturday, the only trains available are the one at 0728, and the one at 1228. The one at 0828, which would be rather useful, is Monday-through-Friday-only. The choice is between getting up earlier than I do on workdays, or not going at all. For the fuck's sake.

So I think I'll just go by car. I don't like trains, anyway.

Name the Song

Hear the silence about to break...
Fear resistance when I'm awake...

17.3.05

Lack of...

Since I'm feeling singularly uninspired, I'll just say this. That's about how much sense the whole thing is making.

16.3.05

Their Blood As Cold As Ice...

There's a spider in one corner of my bathroom. It's been there since October. I've never seen it eat anything, and I keep expecting it to drop dead of starvation. But it's still there, it's made itself a web, and it's sitting in it, waiting.

Wonderful things, ectotherms... And people actually say that the cold-blooded creatures are 'lower' on the evolutionary ladder than us endotherms. I wish they'd try fasting for almost a half a year... I'm sure they wouldn't feel so high and mighty afterwards.

15.3.05

We Are Paying Cash

A few years back, when this story started, a joke circulated... It goes like this:

The Croatian Prime Minister came to Bruxelles to ask the Euro-bureaucrats for help with modernising this, restructuring that, and making something else more efficient. He was promised all the necessary aid, help, and counsel, but they asked him, how is Croatia going to pay for all that? And he replied, cash.

Not a very funny joke when told in English - it's one of those word game things that don't translate well. The Croatian word for 'cash' is the last name of the most wanted Croatian, General Ante Gotovina, an undisputed hero of the war that Serbia waged on Croatian territory, and an accused war criminal. The cause of the fact that, in two days, Croatia won't be starting negotiations to join the EU, as was scheduled. (You'll hear the current Prime Minister saying, thinking and hoping that the negotiations will be starting on Thursday, but he's just trying not to lose the upcoming local elections.) I hear it's a precedent.

General Gotovina's guilt or innocence is not the issue here, although what he hopes to achieve by having his name associated with the names of Radovan Karadjic and Ratko Mladic in UN Security Council resolutions is beyond me. Whether he will go and defend his honour in front of the Hague tribunal, or keep hiding, is his decision to make. I'm not going to judge him for it, because I'm not sure I'd do differently myself, were I in his shoes.

Some say that he's holding the entire country hostage by refusing to surrender. This couldn't be farther from the truth.

The blame lies on the Government of Croatia (and all its institutions), both the previous and the current one. The previous one, for letting him go into hiding in the first place, in a vain attempt to appease certain more, khm, conservative parts of the electorate, and not lose the elections. The current one, for actively and vocally supporting (appeasing the afore-mentioned parts of the electorate) his escape while in the opposition, and then nominally trying to catch him when they came to power, while our intelligence services spied on the Hague investigators instead of looking for Gotovina. The belated attempts to order, through the newspapers, the relevant agencies to 'intensify' the search didn't look well, either. Simply put, we have no respect for our own laws and obligations, and this is just the one example that is most obvious to the international community.

It is not Ante Gotovina's fitness to be a member of the European Union that is being judged here. It is the fitness of the Republic of Croatia that is in doubt. The Republic of Croatia, to the great sorrow of its citizens, is sadly unfit.

Joys of Travel Planning

I said I wasn't going to look for plane tickets on the internet... Several times. I say, I'll go to an agency. They know how those things are found, and they don't have to use Google to discover where to look.

Everything would be so much easier if I lived in a more convenient place... Like Dublin, for instance. You can go everywhere from Dublin, and for very little money. So unlike Zagreb...

13.3.05

Spring

Today I saw a flying insect of some sort (a moth, I think), and a bat. The weather is getting significanlty warmer, and the spring thaw has started. So much about learning to snowboard this season...

And I think Blogger is broken.

12.3.05

Wishlist

I need a new corkscrew... And crackers. Why do I always forget to buy crackers?

Also, Robert Skalli Cabernet Sauvignon 2001 > Robert Skalli Cabernet Sauvignon 2000. The 2001 one is a rather lovely wine, in my non-expert opinion.

11.3.05

The Darwin Award

Darwin Awards "salute the improvement of the human genome by honoring those who accidentally kill themselves in really stupid ways."

One of this year's nominees, my personal favourite, died of suffocation by his own gas emissions while sleeping in an almost airtight room. Even three of his rescuers got sick. Since I'm pursuing a war against vegans right now, I'll note, with premeditated malice, that the guy's diet reportedly consisted mostly of beans and cabbage...

10.3.05

Pain Not Mine

I hate seeing a friend suffer, and not being able to help him.
That's one of the super-powers I'd like to have... To be able to share people's pain and make it less for them that way.

9.3.05

A Saying!

It seems that nobody else has said 'if meat is murder, tofu is genocide' yet. Let me be the first. Although there is a version which calls vegetarianism a genocide, I think mine is more elegant.

8.3.05

Dull Wits

It really horrifies me to think about what kind of shaving experience are the people who use the expression 'razor-sharp teeth' used to...

7.3.05

A Single Premonition

I have a feeling this will be a cold, cold week.

6.3.05

Irradiated Bird

Here's the bird, getting irradiated by Mr Monitor. I suppose he likes sitting there because it's warm, and we don't let him sit on the fireplace...

Let the Sleeping Bird Lie

A measure of how much you can get an animal to trust you...

Igor, dozing off on my shoulder.

And asleep.

Of course, when one's being flashed at by one's most inconsiderate perch, one can't sleep, can one?

Yeah, I woke him up. Now he's eyeing me sideways...

And this would be the either-entertain-me-or-I'm-going-back-to-sleep look.

Since I didn't show any inclination to be entertaining, the bird went back to sleep.

You might think this would be a good time to take the bird and put him into his cage to sleep. Wrong. If I did that, Igor wouldn't just not settle down and sleep, he'd proceed to make as much noise as possible. Trust me, that's a lot of noise. He's got a mighty voice and two bells, and he's not afraid to use them.

5.3.05

Is Snow Any Good?

Considering the fact that it's still snowing, and they say it won't really be stopping till the end of this month, I wonder if it'd be a good idea to learn to snowboard this season... I'll have to see if it can be squeezed in.

3.3.05

My Dreams Only

The Light of Axim shone on me, and I dreamed. But I'm not going to tell anything about those dreams. They are mine.

Weather. Weather! WEATHER!!!

I hear it's 28 Centigrade in the Nile Delta...

Could the Real Spring Please Stand Up?!

Today even the sea froze. Islands has sub-zero temperatures. AND IT'S THE BLOODY MARCH! (Even though my computer, for some reason, claimed it wasn't.)
