Political Me

According to a site, I'm a leftist libertarian. More libertarian than leftist. WHICH IS A LIE!!! A DIRTY, DIRTY LIE!!!

Educational Therapists...

Intrigued, I did a Google search. I found this. Beginning to read, I found that educational therapists aren't as useless as it seemed. Alas, I didn't stop after the first five lines... So my previous opinion still stands. A civilization which has shrinks for kids desperately needs a barbarian invasion.

A problem may be finding proper barbarians these days, though... Anyone care to invent time travel and acquire some?

The Decay of Civilizations

The other day, I came upon a profession called 'educational therapist'. Bewildered, I asked some more knowing people what in the name of the carrot would an educational therapist be. And I was told that it is a 'moron who majored in psychology and is trying to figure out how to make money with a useless degree' by 'thinking he knows better than kids' (apply a she where applicable). In another words, a children psychiatrist.

You know what I think? A civilization which has shrinks for kids deserves to be destroyed by a barbarian invasion.

Shed Their Blood on the Land...

Now it's turned to boring gray. It'll be black soon...

Heroes of the Sand, Part Two

Well, it is, it is! Look outside my window, and you'll see...

Heroes of the Sand

Oh, my carrot! The world has gone yellow!

Fear the Dreamer

Behind the high walls of yellow stone, in a fortress at the edge of the desert, she sleeps. She dreams of other worlds, and the worlds come to be... She dreams of vast forests and blue seas. Of jungles and deserts and dark caverns where hidden springs trickle. Of exuberant gardens and white palaces. She dreams of bliss and beauty... And then she wakes.

Have I mentioned how much I dislike weddings? Well, if I have, I need to mention it again.

25.6.04

I don't like weddings. I hate formal parties. Why am I not going to a beach party today instead?

A Good Night's Sleep

And the light of Axim shall set you free...
There is nothing, nothing that can compare to sleeping on the porch of a half-burned house, with nothing but a thin mat between you and the hard concrete, only a sleeping bag between you and the cold autumn wind, howling through the ruins of the village, millions of stars glittering above you, and no other light but that of the Moon. Believe it or not, that was one of the most pleasant and memorable nights I've ever had. I slept better than in many beds. One thing was missing, though... There were no wolves howling in the surrounding mountains...

Car Racing

Car racing should be banned. Look at all the resources they spend! And on what? Driving in circles! Off-road, too. They don't drive in circles, but boy, do they spill oil and spew noxious fumes where no such things should be done... Disgusting.

Yes, I know. I drive a car. And I go off-road from time to time. But at least I have an excuse (lame as it is) of wanting to get from point A to point B more easily and more conveniently than I could on my own two legs.

CAPS?

Hmm... Writing caps with a fountain pen simply doesn't feel right. I suppose that means ballpoints are good for something.

Human Concepts and the Difficulties of Expressing Them

I now hold the first-degree certificate in Italian. I can talk about the present, and tell people to do things. For the Italian me, there is no past, and no future. In Italian, I exist only now. Most frustrating. Is this what it feels like to be a badger?

It's the Midsummer Day. Let's drink to it.

Evil Mad Scientist Me, Part 2!

And while you're at it, you can exorcise every gardener and housewife who ever lived...

Evil Mad Scientist Me!

I can clone things! And I do clone things!
Call the bioethics committee! Call the exorcist! I am EVIL!!!

I need to make a list of the unusual things I've eaten...

Online@HR

Today is a historical moment. Not only did Croatia become an official EU candidate, but I made my first online purchase in my own country.

Secrets

The best way to keep a secret is to kill all the people who know it...

17.6.04

Another thing struck me today. Again, it's Italian-related. It amazed me how tremendously expressive I am in English... There are things I can say in English that I don't know how to say in Croatian. I have to admit it makes me all warm and fuzzy inside. Have no idea why, since the very idea of there being things I can't say in my mother tongue, but can in some other, should be scary...

Real, Unreal, and Stuff

A cliche. Been hanged out to dry and chewed up thousands of times. I know. So shoot me. And just so it's known, I blame a Deep Space 9 episode for this.
I had a talk once, in one of those late hours of parties when everyone turns into a philosopher, with a friend who, shall we say, experimented with substances. We discussed, in the light of his experiences, the nature of reality. What is real, what is not, is this all just somebody else's dream, and so on.
Well, Mr Descartes thought he got around that with his 'cogito, ergo sum' thingie, but that's just a load of BS if you ask me. It doesn't prove anything, except that very elaborate dream characters would be able to pretend they're thinking, wouldn't they?
The thing is, you can't prove it either way. And it doesn't matter All this is either real, or it is not. How could you know the difference? And what difference would knowing make?

When Put into Context...

Two things popped into context today...
First, the way I very carefully cross the railroad. It's completely and totally out of character. Most amazing, that.
And second, my Italian lessons. When I tell people about them, it sounds like I actually have a life. Maybe I should start listening to what I say to people.

14.6.04

Yawns and Snakes

I don't stifle my yawns. I yawn so wide, I have a feeling my jaw will dislocate. Like a snake. Their heads get dislocated in five places (five that I can count off the top of my head, but I have a nagging feeling there should be more...) when they swallow. Such a neat ability, that.

13.6.04

Flies

Have I ever seen 5" long, green fly?
No, why do you ask?

Safe/Not Safe

And just when you think you have everything under control, you're proven wrong...

When You Turn On the Autopilot...

It was thirteen years ago that I embarked on this journey. That was my first chance. Not a particularly good one, but I can't blame everything on the circumstances. I didn't take that chance, but very well, I was to get another one, four years later. By that time I realised that I'd been doing things the wrong way, but I didn't do much to correct the situation. The little I did was certainly not enough.

Now, it is too late. I've had my chances, and I did nothing to take them. As impossible as it seemed thirteen years ago, this journey is about to end. It is, in fact, already over. What goes on now is just a plane, flying on autopilot towards its crash site.

Wondering if I would've done anything differently had I known what I know now can be only that: wondering. I'd like to think that I would, but I know that's not true. Too many are the things I knew I should've done, but didn't do them anyway.

All that is left to do now is find a nice crash site and wait for the fuel to run out. Maybe I'll have more luck the next time...

Another one of my wishes came true, and I wish I could take it back. Not that the weather cares what I wish for it to be...

Pens & Inks, Part Three

Setting records here... Third post today! (All right, I had to cheat. It was past midnight. But I still count it as a third post!)

If I ever thought noone could like pale greenish-gray, so called 'blue-black', ink, I need to think again. This Pelikan's concoction has grown on me.

pWnage!!!!11!!!!!!oneone!!11!!eleven!!!!

And today, I said 'dude' to a friend. Now I can go freak out.

Some things really are amazing. Other things, on the other hand, are not amazing at all.
The same goes for amusing.

7.6.04

Fences??

Mending fences is a rather serious and responsible business, and should not be taken lightly.
Having said that, I need a fence. I want to fence in my own little patch of garden so I can grow nettles and other kinds of weed in it without the having the stupid neighbours pile their firewood on them, or the evil municipal workers mowing them down every two weeks.

6.6.04

I said 'mate' yesterday... It felt so weird. The next thing you know, I'll be saying 'dude'... A disturbing thought.

5.6.04

Isn't it fun when the end of September comes at the beginning of June?

I wonder what monkey children taste like...

4.6.04

Pens & Inks, Part Two

Why do the Pelikan people call their thin greenish-gray ink blue-black? Colour-blindness or licentia poetica?

Pens & Inks

I put Pelikan blue-black ink into my Pen #1. And it made me happy, which is totally out of proportion. Go figure.

3.6.04

Maps and Fields

The map is not the terrain. As someone who has grown up fighting on maps, this is something I must keep in mind at all times. No matter in how much detail a history book describes a battle, one cannot even begin to appreciate the situation or the difficulties until one has at least seen the field upon which it was fought.

2.6.04

Why is it that when I feel hungry, the book I'm reading has to talk about food, eating and feasting?

One Month Ago...

...it began. Frankly, I didn't expect it to last that long, but here it is.
