The God giveth, the God taketh... Not that I feel I've been given something, or that something's been taken away from me. I just... thought... about this saying, and felt a need to write it down.

Old Times, Old Games...

Does anyone remember an old game called Colonization? Well, I blew the dust off my old archive CD, and installed it. Must be this book I'm reading... And it's as good as I remember. I'm sure today's kids would frown on 320x200, 256-colour graphics, which makes absolutely no use of their very expensive graphics cards, or a totally non-surround sound (which might not even be compatible with the current hardware)... But what do kids know about good games?

29.5.04

Titles. Wow.

And sharp egdes, too. Two wows.

28.5.04

Goo. Isn't it a great title word?

Goo, no matter how high its quality may be, starts getting on one's nerves after a time.

I feel a great need to enchant a sword and call it 'Blood of Heroes'...

Another piece of wisdom that's not mine... But I wholeheartedly agree with it. I'm even basing my waking pattern on it.
"Sometimes I think there's more rest in that place between wakefulness and sleep than there is in true sleep. The mind walks in the twilight of both states, and finds truths that are hidden alike by daylight and dreams. Things we're not ready to know abide in that place, awaiting that unguarded frame of mind."

I was never a person for taking notes now, and then putting them in order later. It was always now-or-never thing for me. Until now. The concept of the draft seems to have finally got to me... I wonder what took it so long. I also wonder what it means...

25.5.04

There's one wonderful thing about fevers... They produce such nice nightmares, you just have to feed them properly the day before.
Which I have failed to do this time. I was too tired, I suppose...

24.5.04

Well, somebody overwatered the Sedum... And it wasn't me. Grr @ other people in the house... Anyway.

To return to Herr Hitler's bits of wisdom... People who call disposable pens made of wood 'eco-pens' should not be sterilised, but publicly executed in a most gruesome manner. Eco-this, eco-that. Inflation of eco-stuff. And then they put an eco label on something disposable. Go figure...

23.5.04

It's quite a shame when a biologist has problems with identifying bird feathers... Well, according to the Pelikan Epoch quiz, I suck. It'd be nice to win that pen, though. I like it.

Realised I want a wax sealing thingie. With my logo (which I have to properly design first) on it. And green, pine-scented wax, like the one from J. Herbin. Imagine my letters then... Maybe I'd even write some.

Why are steam and internal combustion 'engines', and electric is 'motor'? How does the steam engine work, anyway? They did such wonderful things with it... Look at that spider machine thingie in Wild Wild West... It's based on a steam engine!

There's something to that be-careful-what-you-wish-for saying... I used to complain how it's impossible to find fresh ginger in these parts. And now, I have a half-kilo root, and absolutely no idea what to do with it... Time to start digging through the cook book!

21.5.04

I've been fascinated by Herr Hitler lately. Must be this book I'm reading... So here's another one of his, and one which I find disturbing on a personal level: "Anyone who sees and paints a sky green and fields blue ought to be sterilized." Not that there aren't some such people who would deserve this...

20.5.04

A guy once said, "Armies for the preparation of peace do not exist. They exist for triumphant exertion in war." Can be applied nicely to what the Americans are doing now, can't it?

19.5.04

Let the sleeping bird lie. Especially if he has a big beak.

I realised something... It would be yesterday now. I haven't washed my car since February 2002.

18.5.04

I killed her children. I destroyed her home, and I killed her children. And all she did was build her home in a little corner of the territory I considered mine. She was no threat to me, I simply didn't want her and her brood there. I did it while she was away, working to provide for her children. When she came back, they weren't there any more. She looked for them, but they were gone. And gone with them was all her hope for the future. Now she will die as a failure, alone.

I wonder how many vegans would look in those emotionless and cold, alien eyes of hers, and feel enough of their much-advertised compassion not to do exactly as I did...

The King who was lost, and then found... Unconnected and disconnected the thoughts are. The pale light. Not the Moon, he still chases the Sun. The Sun is female, even the Germans think that. What warms us so, must be female. Horse-radish and cheese. No crackers, they're too dry. Big letters, sweeping letters. Why did I dream of killing her? The tram-pulling dream was much more enjoyable, even if it foretold pregnancy...

16.5.04

I love writing with a fountain pen... The pen glides over the paper, no pressure necessary, and you can watch the ink slowly dry as you write. Fascinating. No mere ball-point can compete with that.

15.5.04

Why? Why??? Oh, why would anyone in their right mind put chili into chocolate??? Putting chili into chocolate should be a capital crime!

14.5.04

I realized today I need to learn more about Eminem.
(Yes, I'm not inspired. Sue me. But I did put my plants into new pots today... That's got to count.)

13.5.04

Have you ever heard the scream of a dying shrew? I have... Not in the pre-dawn mist, though. Why is the pre-dawn mist important? It provides the right atmosphere. Screams of dying shrews should always be listened in the right atmosphere. Pre-dawn mist isn't necessary, but it should be dark. That shouldn't be difficult to achieve, since shrews mostly die, violently, at night.

12.5.04

Wherever you go, whatever you do, always try to remember what to do if an atom bomb explodes nearby: die. Or eat something salty. Salt helps with the radiation, and it's better not to die hungry. Even better, something sweet. Sugar gives you energy, so you can glow longer when irradiated.

11.5.04

Ignorance can be excused. Stupidity cannot.
There are a few things worse than boredom in the early morning, aren't there?

10.5.04

And when one is in Spain, one should not eat in McDonalds, either.

When one is in Portugal, one should not eat in Pizza Hut. A shame I realized that a bit too late.

9.5.04

One thing is worse than a Monday morning... A Sunday evening.

8.5.04

Live isn't meant to be comfortable. Life isn't meant to be pleasant. Life most certainly isn't meant to be safe. But it's wonderful nevertheless...

7.5.04

In favour of spring rains - they tend to leave the air crystal-clear.

6.5.04

If I had Elvis, I'd auction him on eBay. Princess Diana, too.

5.5.04

Here's a great truth: "Early to bed and early to rise makes a man stupid and blind in the eyes."

4.5.04

Weariness sometimes brings the sense of calm and serenity. This, of course, is false, but one must enjoy what one has, when one has it...

3.5.04

As problems get closer to solutions, extremists become more, not less extreme. So now we have vegans.

2.5.04

The initiative should not be surrendered to the enemy.

Memos of Note

In the beginning there was... Well, a beginning.
