On a resource-wasting related note... Toy's hard drive has had a spasm yesterday. It's not a medium failure, as it's not making any noises related to that, and RAID claims everything's all right, but the computer just started claiming it has no hard drive at one point. So it seems I'll be buying a new laptop sooner than I planned. Not just buying a new hard drive to replace the defective one, buying a new laptop. In my defence, I can say that Toy is over three years old now, that I'm not sure if it's the HDD's fault (could be the controller or something else) and that both screen hinges are broken and the only thing keeping it open are two paper wedges. Still, a less wasteful solution would be to get Toy fixed.
I'm not going to. A 3-yo computer, especially a laptop, is hopelessly obsolete. That doesn't mean it can't do most of the things I ask it to do, but it's still obsolete. I
want a new one, even though I don't need it, and I'm going to get it. That's the way we do things in the developed West (even in my semi-developed semi-West), and those less developed want to be able to do it, too.
I've even found some worthy candidates to replace it.
