Emo

I have a Myspace account. I am depressed. It was only fitting that I start listening to emo. Last.fm's global tag radio allowed me to, and so I did. For the whole seven minutes.

The music, sound-wise, isn't too different from what I usually listen to. And I'll admit it, the lyrics of some of my favourite songs are pretty darn cheesy. But here's the difference... Even when cheesy, metal has dignity. It makes you feel the power in your bones. Some of it can even be downright frightening to listen. Emo simply leaks teen angst. It can make even the hard-core guitars sound whiny. Disgusting.

But I suppose that's exactly why the youngwertheresque we-are-so-misunderstood American teens love it. And why it makes me want to puke.
