It is said he managed to get out of J.J.R's shadow. In one aspect, that certainly is true. Unlike Tolkien's, his characters make love. In every single novel of his, people have sex. Often with totally un-epic-fantasy-like, detailed descriptions. Not pornographic, of course, but enough to get him R-rated... Most refreshing.
